The Roman amphitheater of Lecce is located in Piazza Sant’Oronzo. For a long time, it remained buried under its own rubble, it was discovered by chance only in 1901 and brought to light.
Currently, the Lecce Amphitheater is used for events, concerts and events held in Puglia all year round on various occasions.
The construction dates back to the Augustan age and was partly built with the excavation of the ground, with arched architecture supported by tuff pillars. The arena of the Roman amphitheater is elliptical, built in Lecce stone, covered with worked marble and was enriched with decorations now preserved in the Lecce Museum.
